Overweight due to medicationOur daughter has been on a couple of medications for the past 6 months.
These medications Lovan and Olanzapine were prescribed for her by her doctor to treat depression.
But since she has been taking these meds she has gained around 30 kg which is alot for a 14 year old girl in just a few months.
I was just wondering if other members have experienced such medication related weight gain in their children.

One of my kids was on Prozac (low dose) for 2 years and now is on Lexaprose (sp?).... she is a little dumpling at age 9 but we are not sure if it's the meds causing this - she does have the sensory issues of always being hungry and her whole life revolves around the next meal or what she can eat... poor love ...
Does your daughter eat more since these meds or has the weight just gone on... lethargy is one of the side effects of these meds so reluctance to take exercise is an issue no?

I'm a member of a few forums and it seems to be a common problem with kids on these medications. I've heard alot of stories of kids taking the meds and then stacking on the weight. I will have a search around and see if i can find some articles on the issue.

No she just eats more than she used to and she is not very active even though we try to get her to at least ride her bike.
