I thought this was quite a good article - concise and informative and a good read for anyone suspecting their child may be experiencing delays.

My one mainstay in life as a therapist is to believe than no child has limits - if we expect limits we will surely get them. I continue to be amazed at the progress kids make when you apply love, determination, understanding and acceptance.....

We try to push our daughter as much as we can Miss Daisy as we dont want her to just settle for having a "label" such as autism and use it as a way to complain that the world is so hard and unfair or to use this label as a way to withdraw from society.

It is a case of finding something that your child excels at and then giving them the belief that they can succeed and that all is not lost. There are still plenty of bad days but atleast there is some good too.

So true... we celebrate even the smallest achievements with the kids we work with as if they have just broken a world record... people observing think we are nuts when we jump around and yahoo when a kid finally says a word, builds a tower or communicates a need..

Working within the DIR/Floortime remit is all about facilitating a child to feel powerful and in control... I have always poo-pooed the diagnosis that any impairement limits a child's ability to achieve...

These kids with challenges have an exhausting regime and I am always amazed at how tough their schedule are ... I would conk out at such an intensive program!

Remember.... it's usually 1 step forward - two steps back... but boy are those forward ones something to celebrate Very Happy
