Does your family have a history of psychosis? Share your story here as i would be interested to know how prevalent mental illness is in other families where there is a child who has this illness.

I have worked with a few kids with this dual diagnosis and did read a book

Autism & Childhood Psychosis by Frances Tustin

I would be interested to hear the story of your journey so far and how you got this diagnosis....?

As far as I remember from personal experience a few of the kids with this diagnosis did have a history of mental illness in their family - two with one parent and three with a missed generation - grandparent with history...

I think it is a rare diagnosis to get right?  Would like to find out more about this topic...

My wife has a long history of mental illness on her side of the family her father had schizophrenia and spent his last years in an institution. There are some other mental health issues with her extended family including aunts and cousins.

It seems to have skipped my wife but not our oldest daughter. We also have a younger son and daughter which arent exhibiting any signs yet.

Interesting! It sounds like your girl has complex set of needs and I imagine that it's hard to work with all those challenges...I send you all a hug.

Q? Is there a good network of specialist help for your daughter where you are ... have you had to travel further afield to find help... I have no idea about the services available in AUS...?

Yeah she does but i am happy to report that she seems to be feeling a little better nowadays haven't had the self harming issues for a bit and we have been able to reduce her meds to just the one tablet a day down from 4 a day that she was taking. I think a lot of that has been to do with her being in the special education school where the bullying that she was receiving before is non existent. She is doing well there too with her schooling which is great too.

Still the odd bad day but not everyday like before.
